Gugulethu police have recovered a dagga stash worth an estimated R500 000 hidden in drums and refuse bags in Barcelona, Gugulethu.

Public Order Policing (POP) Units were patrolling the area when they made the discovery following a tip-off by community members, on Tuesday January 28. They recovered six drums and six refuse bags of dagga. A 19-year-old man was arrested.

Meanwhile, the Gugulethu police are appealing to members of the public to contact them if they have had items stolen from their homes recently.

Gugulethu spokesperson Constable Sindisiwe Ngqele said about 60 items including television sets had been recovered and were waiting to be reclaimed.

“The problem we are encountering is that residents or victims of crimes do not come forward to the police and check for their stolen goods.

“In some cases police have been able to locate the stolen goods but no one comes forward to claim (them). We appeal to them to come forward to get their goods back from the police. But they will need to have proof,” she said.

She advised that people record the serial numbers of items when they purchase them.
