Group nabbed transporting alcohol

Five men were arrested after they were found transporting alcohol in Langa on Saturday March 28.

Members of the Special Investigative Unit, who were  on duty at Jakes Gerwel Drive, pulled over a double cab bakkie.

Inside, they found 30 boxes of Wellington Brandy and 30 boxes of Smirnoff Vodka.

Five people including the driver were arrested and detained at Langa police station under the Disaster Management Act of 2002.

Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, said: “Alcohol abuse is one of the main generators of serious violent crime such as murder, robbery and domestic  violence in the Western Cape.”
