Gift of the Givers shower Imbokodos with gifts

Gift of the Givers provincial co-ordinator Ali Sablay delivers goodies to the women.

Gift of the Givers Foundation, Nyanga police and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) pulled out all the stops to celebrate Women’s Month in style at an event at the Crossroads community hall near Nyanga.

Mothers, grandmothers, imbokodos and survivors of domestic violence were among the 300 women from the Nyanga policing precinct who were celebrated on Thursday August 8.

Gift of the Givers co-ordinator, Ali Sablay said women were the backbone of any society.

“Women raise the great leaders of the world. They were our first teachers and honouring them is honouring a nation.”

Mr Sablay said they wanted to treat mothers to a day to remember and let them know that they are loved and appreciated.

He praised the presence of the Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Pam Tshwete who he said was an inspiration to most women.

The packed event was also attended by many young women who were happy to be among their seniors. Nyanga police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said the event was about honouring women’s lives and celebrating their achievements.

She reiterated Mr Sablay’s sentiments that women play a great role in humanity and deserve respect.

“We decided to take 300 women and honour them on this day. We know the contribution made by women in this country. In celebrating that contribution, we decided to honour them and give them gifts. These are phenomenal women who fought for us. Their contribution in the struggle cannot be ignored,” she said.

The day saw specifically the old women being pampered.The attendees enjoyed snacks, a nutritional meal and went home with gifts.
