Fruit seller arrested for alleged drug dealing

Cash and drugs confiscated in Khayelitsha on Monday May 27.
A 32-year-old man was arrested for alleged drug dealing and possession of drugs in Nkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha yesterday.

Metro police officers, who were on patrol in the area, saw a man leaving a known drug outlet.

They approached him, but he ran off and disappeared between the shacks.

The officers then turned their attention to the outlet, a fruit stand, and started searching it.

Metro police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons, said: “They found 78 sachets of Swazi dagga, 12 sachets of tik, a scale and just short of R3 000 in cash in a back room.”

The owner was taken to Harare police station and detained for further investigation.
