Unemployed youth living in Ward 88 (Lentegeur, New Woodlands, Philippi Park, Heinz Park and Philippi) are invited to take part in a youth skills development project which will help them to start their own businesses.
The councillor for Ward 88, Michael Pietersen, has allocated funds from the ward allocation budget to implement a five-day cellphone repair skills training workshop to empower unemployed youth to start their own businesses and to become self-sustainable.
A total of 15 yong men and women are required for the training which will start by April. After completing the training, each participant will receive a basic business box with equipment to start their own cellphone repair business.
“The initiative is just a small way of assisting unemployed youth to become self-sustainable,” said Mr Pietersen. “There are far too many young people not using their time constructively. This project will allow participants to start their own businesses and it is also a perfect opportunity to reach out to them and make a meaningful difference in their lives. With the roll-out of this project, we are empowering them to change their lives despite their circumstances, encouraging them to shape their own destiny.”
Those interested to be part of the first batch of trainees will have to meet the following criteria:
* Must be between 18 and 20 years old
* Must have matriculated last year (2015)
* Must not be currently studying at a tertiary institution
* Must live within Ward 88
* The total income of the household must be under R3 500
The closing date for applications is Wednesday March 9. Applicants are requested to deliver a certified copy of their matric certificate, identity document, proof of address, a one-page CV, and a one-page motivational letter.
These supporting documents, along with an application, must be submitted and dropped off at the reception at the Sub-council 23 offices, situated at the Lentegeur Administrative Building, on the corner of Melkbos Street and Merrydale Avenue, Lentegeur.
All successful candidates will be notified by the sub-council.
