Mourners filled the Nonzwakazi Methodist Church in Gugulethu on Saturday to pay their respects to the Blaahs Cape Town Society chairman, Mpumelelo Ngidana, who died last week.
Mr Ngidana served on the society’s executive committee for six years
Mbulelo Mpofu, who served alongside Mr Ngidana described him as a man of substance.
“He believed in doing good. Our anti-GBV marches were inspired by him because he had strong views on the topic and wanted to see less of such crime,” Mr Mpofu said.
Speakers at the funeral described him as a selfless leader and a father figure.
For many years, he served as a chairman of the street committee in Gugulethu and helped to raise funds for a motorised wheelchair for a man suffering from an extremely rare genetic connective tissue disorder.
Mr Ngindana was also a senior preacher and circuit leader in the Methodist Church.
