Elderly visit aquarium

A group of elderly Khayelitsha residents from the Neighbourhood Old Age Home (NOAH) were treated to their first visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront.

It was also the first time many had the opportunity to venture outside of Khayelitsha since the lockdown started almost two years ago, in March 2020.

NOAH provides housing and social enterprises for vulnerable elderly people who struggle to make ends meet on their social grants.

The elders enjoyed a guided tour at the Two Oceans Aquarium.

The group who went on the outing was nominated by their peers in recognition of their daily contributions to the running of the NOAH community centre in Khayelitsha by helping in the kitchen, cleaning, working in the spaza shop, making soap and candles for fundraising purposes and more.

Following a guided tour of the aquarium, the group enjoyed a leisurely lunch and a walk around the waterfront.

“We are immensely grateful to Shoprite for arranging such a wonderful outing for them,” said Anne Dobson, director at NOAH.
