While rummaging through waste outside Mokone Primary School in Langa last week, a man made a gruesome discovery.
Stashed in a discarded suitcase, was the body of a baby boy.
According to some residents who were at the scene, the man had been looking for recyclables when he found the child’s body.
“He called people around here. He was so traumatised.
He went away and never looked back,” said Lungiswa Ngxolo.
She added that, had it not been for the man, the baby’s body may have been found by school children-or animals.
Langa police spokesperson, Captain Nondumiso Paul said an inquest docket was opened following the discovery and that they were investigating a case of concealment of birth. “It is alleged that a passer-by found a small bag that was dumped.
“Upon arrival on the scene, the police opened the bag and found a foetus with the umbilical cord that was inside the bag,” she said.
The foetus was taken to Salt River Mortuary.
No one has been arrested yet. Anyone with information, which can help police find the suspect is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Sibusiso Mahlanza on 079 880 9812 or Langa police on 021 695 8010
