I don’t dispute that poverty is the root of crime but in most scenarios we exaggerate this concept.
I once went to a small town in the Eastern Cape called Molteno.
In that town you can see people are not employed and the level of poverty is high but I can tell you people sleep with open windows and no burglar bars at night, people carry their cellphones with no fear of thugs.
They are poor but the crime rate is low.
