At the Abundant Life Ministries Church, they do not only believe in only loving God and the Bible, but rather all of society – and they believe in the power of doing good for others.
Following a spate of violent crime and killings, the Site C branch has embarked on a unity drive with other churches together with local people to work in unity.
The church has had five worship nights featuring different gospel artists and guest speakers, many of whom took a critical look at the role of the church in society in combating crimes and other social ills in the communities they operate in.
Church leader Apostle Zamuxolo Mzinyati said unity among churches and working together could lead to many good things in their communities.
He said his church had embarked on these nights of “true worship” because there was a lot that churches could do together. “We have been monitoring what is happening in our communities. But as a church we looked deep and thought of collaborating with other churches for unity.
“We thought there is no one that can achieve peace without the collaboration with others. For that we have embarked on nights of true worship.
“We invite an artist per night and a guest speaker for that particular night. That happens for the whole week. We also invite not only our church members but people at large. We are happy there has been good support form people of Site C where we are right now,” he told Vukani.
The church also runs tutoring programmes for pupils and teaches job skills. “We have been blessed with companies coming to us to upskill our people. We have groups that come and teach seniors and at times feed the hungry. I believe this is what we should be engaging in as churches,” he said.
Pastor Sthembiso Sobhoyisi, one of the guest artists, commended the church for the role it plays in the community. “I have never seen anything like this.
“That is why I also dedicated myself to perform here,” said the well known Site C gospel artist. “We all need peace and tranquility. We all need to come together to pray for ills of this country. I think the church is doing good work for the country. This is true role of a church,” he said.
