Children’s home receive Christmas gifts

Christmas came two weeks early for the little residents of Vuka Nomtoboyi’s Children’s Home in Langa when a women’s manyano from JL Zwane Presbyterian Church visited them bearing gifts.

The home, despite being not properly registered with the department of social development and other government agencies, is carrying out a crucial service to the community.

“We are surviving through the will of God,” said founder of the home, Eunice Nomtoboyi.

“People come and donate to this home because they know how I struggle for these children,” she said. The home has 27 children under its care, some of whom are of school-going age and others tiny toddlers.

Ms Nomtoboyi said almost monthly they get “children dropped by parents and relatives”.

She added that she was working with ward councillor Nomtha Sipoyo-Dilima to find a proper place to keep the children.

“At the moment we are closer to the shebeen and it gets very noisy and the children cannot play freely outside,”she added.

Ms Sipoyo-Dilima said she has tried helping the home but it must get properly registered with government agencies before it can get assistance.

Leader of the JL Zwane Presbyterian Church women’s manyano, Thobeka Base, said ever since they heard about the home they have been trying to help.

“We make a point of coming twice a year, bringing stuff we have collected for them. The little things we bring play a huge role here,” said Ms Base.
