Mandalay-based businesswoman Gladys Kutumane celebrated her birthday in style at the weekend, with an event to celebrate women at the Dutch Reformed Church in Langa.
Not only did she entertain them but she also rolled out a red carpet.
Ms Kutumane turned 70 on Sunday June 25. She included two of her June birthday churchgoers in the celebrations with other congregants and friends. Her June birthday colleagues were Rose Mnyamane who turned 81 and Mandisa Matyityi who turned 50.
Ms Kutumane said she wanted to use her power of prayer to inspire senior women to have confidence in themselves.
She wanted women to unite and start to stand together in whatever they do. “I decided to have lunch for everyone. But mostly I wanted these women, young and old, to have confidence in themselves. It is not everyday where women come together to celebrate their achievements. Today we decided to put ourselves on a red carpet. We are grateful that the Almighty has kept us until today,” she said.
Ms Mnyamane said she was grateful that the day was filled with love and happiness. She sent out a special thanks to Ms Kutumane for the idea to have celebrations together and at the holy place.
“God has blessed us all to be here today. It is not every time that people are in one place and celebrate together. God has also blessed this woman who came up with such a wonderful idea,” she added.
The three women were welcomed by church members with a song. They entered the church with a dance and the expression of joy written all over their faces. Mam’uKutumane led the way. It was then church time and a meal followed after the church service.
