Victoria Ngqoboka was honoured by the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) for her dedication to promoting blood donation in her community in Khayelitsha.
“She was awarded with an Angel Award which is given to individuals or groups that go the extra mile to help promote blood donation and hence improve blood collections at the blood donation clinics,” WCBS spokesperson Pamella Ntseke.
She said Ms Ngqoboka recruits members of her community to donate blood to save lives.
“She encourages potential blood donors to eat healthy meals and maintain a safe, sexual lifestyle; as these are some of the basic requirements to donate blood,” she said.
WCBS currently has a blood donation clinic at Liberty Promenade, opposite Standard Bank in Mitchell’s Plain. The clinic is open from Monday to Saturday until Monday January 25 next year, excluding Christmas and New Year ’s Day.
To qualify to be a blood donor one needs to be between 16 and 75 years old, weigh more than 50kg, be in good health, and lead a safe sexual lifestyle. It is important to have a meal and drink enough water before you donate blood.
