The Cape Town Black Professional’s Social Club (Black Pro’s) and the new Frank Bakery and Brunch eatery from Gugulethu’s section 2, joined forces to support Ikhaya Old Age Home on their 23rd birthday celebration.
On Valentine’s Day, Frank Bakery – previously known as Igugulethu Bakery – baked and donated their first speciality cake under their new management and baking team.
The 20-year-old family bakery undertook the challenge of baking a scrumptious low-sugar velvet fondant cake, replacing sugar with natural alternatives such as honey and home-made vegetable jam.In partnership with The Black Pro’s, a social golfing club with over 40 members from all over South Africa, Frank bakery selected the old age home to donate the cake as a tribute to the hard work and achievements of the elders.
These professionals consist of individuals ranging from junior management to executive board member level and entrepreneurs from small to large scale enterprises.
The Black Pro’s also donated R5 000 worth of groceries to the home.
The golfers meet on a weekly basis over a round of golf to discuss a range of issues involving business, community development and diversity in golf.
‘’The Black Pro’s have always been committed to giving back to the township community, partly because most of our members grew up in similar conditions and understand the challenges affecting its residents.
Ikhaya Old Age Home came as a natural choice for us because we feel our aged citizens are often times neglected and we owe it to them to reassure them that their hard work and what they have instilled in us will never be left behind. We hope this gesture will inspire others to do the same,’’ said Vuyo Ngonyama, chairman of the Black Pro’s.
