Alleged metal thieves arrested

Two men have have been arrested after they were caught allegedly stealing metal poles from the Metro police facility in Philippi on Wednesday December 5.

The City of Cape Town’s Metro police department received a call about men who were scaling the wall at the facility. They followed up and spotted the suspects along Rochester Road. 

The two, aged 19 and 29, were found in possession of four metal poles and a trolley. They were arrested on charges of trespassing and possession of stolen property.

Mayoral committee member for safety and security; and social services, JP Smith, said; “While the theft of some metal poles may seem innocuous enough, these incidents are symptomatic of a far bigger problem that sees the City of Cape Town lose millions of rand every year.”
