The St Bernard Mizeki Men’s Guild (BMMG) of the False Bay Dioces, held its 14th annual commemoration on Saturday June 22 in Mfuleni.
The two-day event was attended by more than 10 parishes from all over the diocese.
This year’s commemoration was centred on the theme: “For we are partners working together for God” – from the first book of Corinthians (Chapter 2 verse 9).
In a discussion facilitated by Athi Majija around homosexuality within the church, guild members expressed various concerns on the issue.
As a way forward, Reverend Lundi Joko and Reverend Luleka Nyhila took it upon themselves to draft educational material to empower members of the guild with information about the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community.
In his presidential address, Reverend Stafford Moses called
upon members to refrain from factionalism and start putting the interests of the guild first.
“In line with our theme this year, we must establish good working relations with both clergy and our sister organisations
in order to ensure
the guild serves its aims and objectives,” added Reverend Moses.
