After 17 years with Freshlyground, Cape Town songbird Zolani Mahola, has gone solo and has released her first single called “Remember Who You Are”.
Since going solo, she has collaborated with various artists, including multiple Grammy-award winning classical musician Yo Yo Ma, and South African house music producer SunEl Musician.
Built around a rhythmic backbeat of percussive handclaps and with its soaring vocals, “Remember Who You Are” is a rousing call for all to embrace their self-worth, and was produced by multi-instrumentalist Mr Sakitumi.
The new song was written for and inspired by the #GiveHerACrown, an empowerment platform which aims to change the narrative for women using storytelling and the arts, of which Zolani is the ambassador.
It was launched this week by Change Collective, and forms part of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign against gender-based violence.
“Remember Who You Are” will be available for streaming or download on all digital platforms from Friday November 27. The music video, created by Inka Kendzia, will be available for release on the same day.
