Zenkosi Ntlebi from Gugulethu will join 29 contestants in the Miss Teen South Africa pageant regional round on Sunday May 5 in Mowbray.
Zenkosi, 19, is a second-year student in International Relations at the University of the Western Cape.
She said the pageant is an opportunity for her to serve her people and was attracted to it by the community work that contestants have to do. She said she never thought that one day she would enter a beauty contest.
“I believe this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You do not just become the face of the country but you work for your community. I love to work for the community that I am in. There are things that I am currently doing like assisting school children with their work. If you win, you go around to motivate young people and we all know they are the future. That, to me, speaks volumes,” she said.
On Sunday, five finalists will be announced. The top five will head to Johannesburg to meet the other finalists from the country’s nine provinces. Zenkosi believes she will be among the five regional qualifiers for the prestigious Miss Teen SA pageant.
“I am positive about being in Johannesburg and further win the event but people must also vote us in. As residents and responsible citizens, they have a role to play so I urge people to vote for us. They might not vote for me but they need to vote. But I am positive they will vote me in,” she confidently told Vukani.
