Radio presenters pay it forward

Lucks Gidane shares his cake with the people at Vukuhambe, an NPO that takes care of the needs of people living with disabilities.

When the Urban Rural Development and Capacity Building Project, a 21-year-old NPO based in Langa surprised an award-winning Umhlobo Wenene FM duo with a cake during a recent show, they decided to pay it forward by donating the cake to a home for the disabled.

Sijik’ilanga popularly known as SJL was recently awarded as the Best Daytime Show on the public broadcasting service during this year’s Radio Awards.

SJL is a two-hour lunchtime show presented by Luyanda Lucks Gidane and Zintle Baby Zee Mbusi Monday to Friday from the SABC studios in Sea Point.

This is the only show that scooped an award for the radio station in this year’s much anticipated awards.

In April this year, Lucks became one of the ambassadors of the Clean Up Your Space Campaign which called on ordinary citizens to donate clothing and household items that are taking up space.

More than 400 parcels full of clothing and other household items donated were then handed over to Phillipi and Imizamo Yethu informal settlements that were hit hard by fires.

The cake that they received during their show, they donated to Gugulethu-based Vukuhambe, an NPO that takes care of the needs of people living with disabilities.
