Philippi was painted red and white when fans of Maskandi king Mthandeni Manqele known as Igcokama Elisha donned their favourite colours as they officially launched the Cape Town branch of his fan club on Saturday October 16.
Igcokama Elisha came from Gauteng to attend the event and was welcomed with warm heart and excitement as he slowly drove inside the premises of the venue.
Guitars strummed and drums rolled as local artists and poets performed their music keeping the audience glued to their seats and begging for more performances.
More than 150 fans braved a cold and rainy weather to attend the event.
Igcokama Elisha told Vukani said he was over the moon with joy and excitement to attend the officially launch of his branch.
He said such branches play a vital role in expanding his brand and music across the country. “I’m extremely excited to final meet my fans who have been supporting me for a long time.
“They have always wanted me to come here and I thought I should honour their invitation. Without their support, I would never be where I’m today and I don’t take their support lightly,” he said.
Mthandeni, who has a show on SABC 1 called Ushuni ka Maskandi which airs on Saturday at 5.30pm, said he has noticed that the sales of his album in Cape Town is growing each and every year.
Now, he said, it was important that he returned the favour show them that he truly appreciates their support.
Event organiser Sindiso Ngwenya said they were happy that Mthandeni had attended their event.
“We feel special that he took his time of his busy schedule to come and grace the event. We are proud that we managed to pull off the event as it was not easy organising it.”
Avid Mthandeni fan, Nolubabalo Mkhongi said she felt as if she were dreaming and she was excited that she came to the event.
As Mthandeni left the hall, he was mobbed a group of his supporters who were eager to have a picture with him.
