For the love of music

Sinethemba Mda

Sinethemba Mda believes in the healing power of music.

Since school days in Queenstown where he grew up, he has been enchanted with music.

“I grew up around music scenes, whether I was singing or dancing. My passion for music started at a very early age because my mother, Thomakazi would always sing for me and my little brother Sihle,” said Sinethemba.

Through the love of art, Sinethemba, has travelled the country taking part in many dance, music and poetry competitions.

Not someone you can easily corner into one genre, Sinethemba dabbles in hip hop and gospel.

“I am also a songwriter, so I keep my options open,” he said.

He released his debut single titled “Yeyakho Le Ngoma” with childhood friend Mihlali Mgijima and the song was nominated for the SABC Crown Gospel Awards in 2015.

“I then began to see that I was doing the right thing. People from all walks of life fell in love with my craft,” he enthused.

Since relocating to Cape Town in pursuit of his dream as an artist, he has met many friends who are keen to see him blossom.

“This is one part of my life I would never forget because along the way I met the late Khanyisa Mzondi who played a very important part in my life. She connected me to people like Chumani Ngojo – the star attraction of Nu Praize,” he said.

The Chumani Ngojo connection paid dividends because musically he grew and started getting exposure.

“I started singing for bigger crowds and Chumani moulded me into a brand. I even toured Namibia with him,” he said.

He released another hip hop gospel single titled Fresh Annointing and it was well received, getting airplay on many radio stations.

Sinethemba has shared the stage with some of the big names on the gospel music like Vashawn Mitchel (USA gospel sensation), the late S’fiso Ncwane, Dumi Mkokstad, Tinah Zungu and Mahalia Buchanan to name, a few.
