The inaugural Cape Town Food and Wine Festival takes place at the Westridge Gardens in Mitchell’s Plain on Sunday and Monday September 23 and 24.
There will be local culinary delights as prepared by chef Gavin Jethro and trainee chef Jose Jethro, among others, and you can learn about wine from winemakers from renowned wine estates including Nederburg Wines and Drostdy Hof as well as emerging farmers from the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute.
Local winemaker Denzel Swartz, from Tafelsig who grew up on a wine estate, will also introduce his Son of the Soil range, which includes a chenin blanc, pinotage and sparkling wines. The programme for the Sunday includes a keynote address from Derek Hanekom, the Minister of Tourism, to launch the Mitchell’s Plain Tourism Route on the eve of Heritage Day, performances by The Rockets while the final of the Premium karaoke competition will also be held.Other artists who will be performing include Emo Loukmaan Adams, Salome, Vernon Castle and D’Low.
There will also be entertainment for the kids.
Tickets for the festival, which opens at 9am on both days, range from R40 to R350.
