Following the success of his hit single Umntu, featuring Sjava, Khayelitsha rapper Bravo le Roux has released his new album.
The 15-track Igazi, Iinyembezi, Nombilo (Blood, Sweat and Tears) is the culmination of a rigorous two-year music-making process, says Bravo.
“This is a very personal project, which has been in the making for over two years. It’s a carefully curated story of my life, my upbringing and the world from my point of view. I worked with a group of talented artists whose work has not only inspired my own journey but has touched many South Africans.”
The album features Sjava,Touchline, Youngsta CPT, iFani, Gemma Fassie, Digital Sangoma, Prince SA, Zusiphe Msitshe and Payseen.
On the production side, he worked with Msai Beats, TT Beats and Zee Bee.
“This is the music I always wanted to make,” says Bravo. “So I had to consult and collaborate with the right people that could help me pull it off. Most people don’t know about my choral-music background accompanied by the ability to sing and write melodies. I felt I was ready to showcase my other capabilities and create and capture the best energy and moments while at it.”
Bravo’s other albums include NdinguTa Bravo Kuwe, The Rise of Istrato, and International Gubevu, and he has been recognised at both the Ruma Awards and the 2020 South African Hip Hop Awards.
Igazi, Iinyembezi Nombilo, which is available on all digital music platforms, reached the top spot on the South African hip-hop album charts on iTunes on the first day of release, and it had 600 000 streams less than a week after its release.
